Bio:
Born in 1974 in Osaka, Japan, Yamauchi studied creative writing and international relations before shifting his focus to photography. He completed the photojournalism program in the Visual Communication Department at Ohio University, then began his career as a photography intern at the Anchorage Daily News in Anchorage, Alaska. This was followed by a series of internships and staff photographer roles at local newspapers across several U.S. states.
Since 2006, Yamauchi has been a freelance photographer based in Japan, specializing in reportage on culture, social issues, and lifestyles. His work has been featured in both international and Japanese publications, in print and online.
Since 2017, Yamauchi has been a core member of the KYOTOGRAPHIE Kyoto International Photography Festival team.
1974年大阪生まれ。ジャーナリズムと国際関係を学んだのち写真へと専攻を変える。米国オハイオ大学のビジュアル・コミュニケーション学部を修了後アラスカ州アンカレッジ市の日刊紙アンカレッジ・デイリー・ニュースでの写真部インターンとしてキャリアをスタートし、その後いくつかの州の地方日刊紙で経験を積む。2006年より大阪を拠点にフリーランス活動を開始。主に文化、社会、生活についての取材撮影をおこない、時事メディアを中心に国内外の印刷・電子媒体に掲載。 2003年の初展示以来、国内外での個展、グループ展、写真賞受賞展などの開催・参加多数。
また2017年よりKYOTOGRAPHIE 京都国際写真祭のコアスタッフとしてマスタークラスマネージャーやプロジェクトマネージャーを歴任。
